Community Health Worker Program Expands to New Regions
January 15, 2026
NYPAC Institute's award-winning Community Health Worker (CHW) Program is expanding to three new regions in New York State, bringing cancer prevention and health promotion services to underserved communities that have historically faced significant barriers to healthcare access.
The expansion, supported by funding from the New York State Department of Health, will train 45 new community health workers who will serve as trusted liaisons between healthcare systems and their communities. The CHWs will provide cancer screening education, navigation services, and support for individuals seeking preventive care.
'Community health workers are essential partners in our mission to reduce health disparities,' explained Dr. Gorin. 'They bring cultural knowledge, language skills, and trusted relationships that are fundamental to effective health promotion in diverse communities.'
The program has already demonstrated remarkable success, with participating communities showing a 40% increase in cancer screening rates and significant improvements in health literacy. The new regions were selected based on cancer burden data and community input, ensuring that resources are directed where they are most needed.
