NYPAC Institute Awarded Major NIH Grant for Cancer Prevention Research

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded NYPAC Institute a prestigious $5 million grant to expand groundbreaking research on community-based cancer prevention interventions. This five-year funding will support the development and implementation of innovative strategies targeting underserved populations who face significant barriers to cancer screening and prevention services.

The grant will enable Dr. Sherri Sheinfeld Gorin and her team to build upon their successful academic detailing model, which has demonstrated remarkable effectiveness in improving physician cancer screening practices. The new initiative will focus on integrating digital health technologies with community health worker programs to reach populations that have historically been underrepresented in cancer prevention research.

'This funding represents a tremendous opportunity to translate our research findings into real-world impact,' said Dr. Gorin. 'We are committed to reducing cancer disparities through evidence-based interventions that are culturally appropriate and accessible to all communities.'

The project will establish partnerships with community health centers across New York, training over 100 community health workers in cancer prevention education and navigation services. Researchers expect to reach more than 50,000 individuals during the grant period.
